Background
The Hakka Association of Ottawa (HAO) is in its infancy phase. The idea of having a Hakka association in Canada's capital germinated last summer in the mind of several participants in the 2005 Ottawa Hakka Conference, held in Ottawa on August 27, 2005. Since then, we have had one meeting, a get-together and tea-party and a Chinese New Year party.
More activites are planned, both social and cultural in nature, such as get-togethers, Hakka language classes, a basic Hakka-Mandarin-English online dictionary, etc. It will also depend on the response we get from the Hakka community and other people interested in Hakka culture.
Our goal is to promote awareness of the rich cultural heritage of the Hakkas, and to maintain Hakka culture alive.
